A free guitar tuner that runs in your browser. It reads the pitch coming from your microphone in real time and shows how far you are from the target note, in cents. No install, no sign-up.

  • Standard tuning, from the 6th string up: E2 · A2 · D3 · G3 · B3 · E4.
  • The reference pitch is A4 = 440 Hz. Change it only if the people you play with use a different reference.
  • Within ±5 cents already sounds in tune to the ear. You do not need to chase an exact zero.

How to tune your guitar

  1. 1Allow microphone access and pluck one string at a time somewhere quiet. Ringing several strings at once makes the pitch unreadable.
  2. 2If the reading sits below the target note, tighten the tuning peg to raise it; if above, loosen it.
  3. 3Always finish by coming up to the note from slightly below. Tuning down onto a note lets it slip again sooner.
  4. 4Once all six are done, go through them again. Tightening one string bends the neck slightly and pulls the others off.

Frequently asked questions

Is a laptop or phone microphone accurate enough?
Yes, it is fine for everyday practice. Pitch detection measures the period of the waveform, so background noise matters more than microphone quality. Work somewhere quiet and keep the guitar near the mic.
My guitar keeps going out of tune. Why?
New strings keep stretching for a few days, so they will drift. Otherwise the usual causes are string windings that were not seated properly on the peg, a sudden change in temperature or humidity, or the string binding in the nut. Gently stretching new strings after fitting them settles the guitar much faster.
Can I use it for alternate tunings like drop D?
Yes. The tuner reads whatever note it hears rather than forcing a target string, so lowering the 6th string to D2 simply reads as D. Any tuning works — just tune until the note you want appears.
